This number messaged me starting from a month ago and it kept telling me that it is urgent for me to upgrade to a new phone, as my current phone may not work in a few weeks. It came true that my att sim card stopped working a few days ago. The messages that this number sent me promoted ATT as the "go-to" helper. Dont know how this happened...
It sent me to a legitimate AT&T website and the message said that my starter plan part for one of my phones now allows 3GB Hotspot data for no extra cost. (In the past, there was no hotspot.) I checked my Hotspot, it worked, so I think this is a legit AT&T message.
Got a message from it claiming that it was AT&T and that my rate plan had 3GB of hotspot data at no extra cost. Immediately knew it was a scam. Avoid at all costs!
Got a message from this number that reads,

That just don't smell right to me, for starters, a real message from AT&T is from 38809090 and looks like this,
AT&T Free Msg: Your plan renews 02/16/2022. If you have AutoPay you're all set! As a reminder, manage your account and make payments 24/7 at
It's technically not a scam. It is a legitimate text message from AT&T. You can reply back to them and in order to opt out by saying STOP. There is also a way to opt out of their marketing text messages through your account page online. I have recieved multiple texts like this from more than 1 of AT&T's official 'short code' numbers. Here are just 2 examples:
