I Have just called this number and it is the dwp debt management helpline and not a scam. Can't believe some of the comments on here. Good for a laugh.
My son has received such a letter today dated 25/03/21 the web address they give is not reachable, Have contacted action fraud and they say to report to them get a crime number and then phone Universal credit line and give them the crime number as this is likely to be identity theft.
I know my son doesnt owe the amount they are asking as he has never claimed any benefits
Not sure why these people are writing me a letter, Demanding money with no explanation. I don’t owe any money so they can XXXX off. Could be legitimate number but this is clearly FRAUDULENT and I’m not falling for it. Not even wasting my time calling them.
Seems likely to be scam, Although genuine number for DWP, This is for debt collectors seeking overpayments, Message on phone said my dead mother was due an additional payment, So why not just send cheque? Also this followed from 2 calls this morning, The second picked up and machine message saying suspicious activity regarding my NI number, Coincidence or coordinated scam. Also mobile phone numbers called from both 1 digit short.
I received a letter that i owe money, I don’t know for what, Because is no explanation nothing, I’ve tried to call the number on the letter for o e week and half every day at least 10 times a day but they just cut me off. What should I do?
It’s a Genuine number from DWP. Before the virus letters were sent out regarding recovering old debts and overpayments. But the calls are to assure people that no recovery is going to happen. No scam or anything.
They called asking for my daughter (by name). I said she doesn't live here, They said they were the DW&P.
My daughter hasn't lived here for years, That's what seemed odd. I text my daughter saying they were trying to get hold of you, She text back saying it was a scam!!
This is a legit number for DWP debt recovery, It is not a scam and they do answer after 20 minutes but that's the same for any number involving benefits or tax. Get real.
I beileve this is a scam. I receive a letter states DWP address is Wolverhampton. It states my full name address and NI number. It is asking me to ring to discuss ways to pay 3, 800. I have not claimed since 10 years ago and know I do not owe any money. In shredder it goes.
THIS IS A SCAM.
This has been proven as a scam people. 2 of our employees have received the same letter. Neither of these people have claimed any benefits in their lives. One gave a different address to pass Data Protection and the agent cleared it even though it was wrong! Police and DWP have been contacted. These people are very clever. Do not pay them any money. Debts over 20 years old cannot be claimed back!!
They took me money from benefits. 48 pounds gone just before xmass. I called them but I not answer. When I asked lady from uni credit why I missing money they said they don’t know. I had no letters nothing. I don’t know how they can take money and I don’t k is for what. Any advice l
This place is a joke you will be on hold for at least a hour that's after you've been hung up on at least 5 times good luck to anyone trying to get back money they just took from you as they did with me
This is DWP GENUINE. I went in hospital but in for 77 days pipes everywhere.. Never thought these chumps.. Charged me 50 for not contacting em I did it 4 days before I was released. Lol.. I am paying my DLA back dept at an agreed figure wen they rang. Now they want more but I cannot get the number they've given me in the letter. 3 days I've been trying mist of the day on and off.. It gives the engaged tone and cuts off and the web site is useless too.. Wot a XXXX of XXXX..
Have been calling this number for 3 days, Getting put on hold sometimes or just cut off. When i have been put on hold, Have been waiting for over 40 mins and still no answer! Either you get put on permanent hold or cut off,,,, Has anyone ever got through??????????? Kin bru
Had a threatening letter from DWP for £2. 4K with no explanation given for the debt and threatened the recovery by debt collectors. Made many calls throughout the day and eventually got an automated message saying to hold which I duly did After 1. 5 hours the phone died due to a flat battery and then I gave up. Contacted another number within the DWP who gave me an email address to write to which I have done. Still waiting for a reply.
I have just started universal credit and my first payment came in at £47 light due to some debt, I have asked around and it does seem to be a legitimate government department. However getting through does seem impossible as I have been trying for a week. So my next step is a legally formatted letter, Recorded delivery so no denial, Requesting all evidence pertaining to said debt, Of which I have no knowledge of. It does have the smell of fraud to me, So time will tell.
This is now presenting to be a joke. Tried calling now for the last 3 days I just can not get through. What is the problem with theese people. Had a letter saying that if I do not call back they are going to Increase the payment I am currently paying nk to them which is not much. If no one ever answers how can it get resolved. Nightmare
It’s a scam... I spoke to HMRC and DWP if you’ve received a letter saying you have over paid and they are going to contact your employer - unless it gives you the dates of the overpayment and what benefit it is, Do not call them as it isn’t legitimate. I’ve reported it to the fraud department as advised to.
I have dealt with the DWP so it's genuine and I sorted out my business with them but since that day I have been getting calls almost daily sometimes more and they don't talk, Sometimes its rung for 11 seconds hardly time to run for your phone, Open it and respond then nothing. I decided to block them after about 14 calls, If its that important they will send a letter.
They contact you for money that was unpaid over 25 years ago if you don't pay it it comes out of future pensions.
Received a call and did not pick it up (I have been receiving marketing calls as well as calls from unknown mobile numbers so chose to ignore this). Searched it up to find that it was a government debt collection line. I have never been issued benefits of any kind so there is no reason i should be getting calls from them. As others have suggested, I would have to assume that i received the call from a cloned number.
DWP DEBT LINE.
This is legitimate. They recover over payments. I can be from someone who has died, If you are the executor then you will be asked to repay.
A bit suspicious because the person I spoke with was direct, No explanations on why I was asked to call. Just was ready to take bank account number and sort code to pay the debt
This is the genuine number for the Dept. For Work & Pensions debt line (Google it, You'll find it listed on the official gov. Uk website). They're the ones who will contact you if you were paid too much benefit (or if they owe you money - stranger things have happened).
This is the DWP overpayment contact centre, I would advise answering these calls, Or calling back if not. This could lead to them sending debt collectors
