I'm sorry you threw that away! I googled the number, found sites like this and tore mine up!!!... Then I spent a bit of time looking into it, called HSBC, asked them to check the number and it was internal, they put me through - then I hung up and tried again, using only the official HSBC number (just to be 100% sure) and I actually had a chack/balance owed from them for a mortgage I had over 10 years ago which they failed to offer me a variable rate for, so I had a payment plus some interest to
My elderly mother in law recieved a letter claiming M&S bank had sent her a cheque and she hadn't cashed it. This number was on the letter - I googled it and I see lots of reports of them claiming to be other banks as well. Do not call the number and do not enter the web address on the letter into your browser.
I received a letter pretending to be from HSBC saying they sent me a cheque, but I haven't cashed it. They want you to call up and will ask for your details. Do not believe any positive comments regarding this, it is a scam. If you follow what they say your account will be cleared within minutes. HSBC confirmed this is a scam.
