I got a letter from HMRC about an overpayment of tax credits. I phoned it and gave my bank details for a direct debit to be paid each month. Then I panicked and thought I should have looked up the phone number on the government website. I did that and asked them to check my details to see if I had been scammed. This is a total scam, I had letters saying I owe working tax credit and child tax credits, I have never had working tax credits both stated the debt is from 2015, I’m. Sure HRMC would have actually taken me to court by now, they are trying to frighten people into paying money they don’t owe, disgusting human beings praying on vulnerable people
