This scam works through a website which looks like a canon repair site. The real canon webpage is canon. Co./ijsetup, This page is /setup. Subtle but important difference. Don't call an 0208 number, Don't pay for any service. If you do go as far as talking to them don't worry they aren't getting remote access to your computer, It's just a powerpoint slideshow.

Sorry I think I may have reported the comment below as abuse in error (24th May 2020 comment pressed report abuse as thought that linked to reporting these thieving parasites). Stressed not usually taken in by these type of things and never give remote access but desperation to set up printer fell into the trap. Please please avoid these scammers site looks very genuine with pop up chat assistant. Who then directs you to call technician support for further assistance.

These people are scum. I was very nearly taken in by a fake Canon web page when I tried to install a Canon printer using a Canon url. Ffs Thankfully I have a background in computer manufacturing and retailing, Webdesign, And spotted some deviously constructed urls in their source code put together in a shitty wordpress site.. They use off the shelf power assist and remote access software that makes them look like professionals. One thing I did notice while they was spewing lies at me, He

Surely this is very disconcerting as it was linked by the very site you were trying to download to protect your computer

This number popped up when installing the mcafee protection. I bought it from curry's PC World. So, I thought it was a genuine number and called. The man had an Indian accent and asked me to follow the instructions so that he could fix it. He got access to my laptop. He said my IP address is infected and need a repair, Cost £99 and for 3 years protection 299. He took his enough time to explain so many things about internet problems and virus. I told I would call back him for the payment. He said

Popup after installing expresszip which came with several trojans. Phoning the number they want to take control of your computer, Show you fake remote access hacking IP addresses showing you are being hacked (which you are by them) and then want your card details to charge you £90 to install even more viruses (which they will) followed by emptying your bank account and searching your computer for saved logins and card details.
