It was BT calling regarding my broadband cancellation - wanting to make an offer.
Called them back using a number on the website and verified the call was legit.
I cancelled my broadband with BT the day before. Got a call from this number regarding why I had left. They had also sent a txt with a code to show it was BT, which was bonafide as it came from the source of all other BT txts I have ever had, and at no point was I asked for any information other than the security code number on the txt. The chap explained that they try to retain customers and offered me a lower price for my broadband and phone package (£30 less a month). I asked why this wasnt o
Did not pick up. Checked number on Google on another device to discover this number has been reported to action fraud. I have just cancelled my contract with BT. How are these people who are obviously not BT getting the information about customers that cancel with BT? BT needs to do something about this immediately
Given that the broadband company we use always call and ask for us by name, To receive this call saying they are calling about my broadband but state no name, You can imagine where I told them to go
Says they are BT asked for me by name. Not sure if it was a scam so told them it’s not convenient at the moment, To give me time to check think it’s a scam
Got a call today after BT thought I was trying to leave / that someone else was moving in at my address. I said one of their colleagues called me the yesterday and problem was sorted. Believe it was a scam based on the vague nature of questions and the prompts for information.
22 July 2020: Report filed with Action Fraud
Cancelled BT landline & broadband contact two days ago. Received a call from this number 3 times
today, Twice when I was in. I googled it and found that many people have had calls from the number after cancelling their BT contract with negative results ranging from aggressive approaches to get them to not leave BT, To people trying to steal their personal data. If I'm not expecting a telephone call at a specified time I do not answer it because all
Called my daughters phone multiple times over a weeks or so. She answered the first couple of times and was told it was BT and they wanted to speak to me, Then went silent.
Also just cancelled BT broadband and had a text message saying that someone would call me to talk me through the changes that I need to be aware of and quoted this number. I'm not sure it is a scam therefore although the text could easily be an additional smokescreen. Haven't answered as not interested in whatever they have to say.
Did not answer as I do not answer calls from an unknown number - they can always leave a voicemail. Coincidentally I have just cancelled my contract with BT for broadband and phone. Likely a scam.
19 November - cancelled my mobile contract with BT a the weekend. This number has been calling ever since. Didn't recognise the number so have not answered.
Although I didn't cancel my contract with BT I did report a fault last night. Reading other comments this certainly sounds like a security breach at BT.
Cancelled my broadband and landline with BT last week and received multiple calls from this number on my landline (which is ex-directory) but no one there. I cancelled my BT mobile today and low and behold, Received a call from this number on my mobile phone! I have to say there are very persistent, Number has been blocked.
Told me they were from BT, I’m just about to change from BT to another provider, So they said they could offer me a better deal, At first I agreed to swap. Was told I had to speak to someone else to update my monthly direct debit amount, They asked me for my bank details, At which point I became suspicious and told him that they already hold my details and that I was not prepared to go any further with the call.
Didn't answer it but on looking on web it showed that some had mentioned it was claimed to be from BT. Coincidentally or not I received this call the day after changing my BT Mobile and Broadband contract.
Guy with a Scottish accent phoned me offering a deal on my phone and broadband from BT. I told him I was already on a new deal from them and hung up, Obviously someone who had access to BT records and up to no good.
Had loads of call from this number in recent days sometimes noone is on the line others apparently tell me they are from BT telingl me a sim deal is running out but I don't have any such mobile deal. Sounds very dubious so BEWARE
I received a call from this number today (24/10/2019), When I answered the phone, The caller hung up.
My phone number is ex-directory, So how they managed to get hold of my number is beyond me, Unless it was an auto-dialler being used by the scammers, Which is a distinct chance.
This is clearly a scammer in action, If you are called by this number, Report it straight away to the Police, BT and or your telephone provider.
Picked up and an Irish sounding man told me I had won a £2000 holiday voucher but neede to pay £29. 95 processing fee and demanded my details. When I refused as they didnt seem to have any of my details he became really angry and said he would order taxis and pizzas for me. This is actually quite handy as I am going out soon and am feeling XXXXX:-)
Saids she was frim BT.
I do not ever reply to telephone calls like this. Ave no ides if genuine or nor but I will not take the risk of engaging with them
This is a genuine call from BT. After a long time with BT I decided to move to another provider a few days ago and they rang back to offer me a better and cheaper deal than the other provider so I ended up cancelling and staying with BT. Listen to what they want to say and if you are not happy hang up.
It's not a scam call, Its BT retention department (damage limitation) as I had a PAC code sent as requested this morning so this is simply BT realising I'm shopping around now and might be moving all my services (3 mobiles, TV, Broadband, Home phone and line rental. It'll be to my advantage though... If their "reduced" prices aren't competitive, I'll just move services elsewhere.
I haven't answered when this has rung on my mobile. (4 times). The calls started after I requested a moving code (PAC) from BT. I have no doubt it is a call centre that BT use to try and retain customers.
The lady said that my BT mobile sim deal had been taken out for one year and that it was time for renewal and did I want to hear what special offers were available. I said I didn’t think it was up for renewal. She said “do I want to hear the deals anyway.? L” I replied, You can tell me if you want but I won’t be changing! She said “ok. Doesn’t matter. Bye then!”
I worked for BT for 30 plus years. No call script is that colloquial or ends in that way!!! I would say it’s scam!
Had a text from bt saying someone would be calling me. Answered phone when it rang but nobody spoke. So hung up then read other comments below. If they had spoken I would have pointed out to them that the way to keep customers is to treat them fairly.
Got call from this number on Friday, Following another unusual text, Phoned bt who said the text was them but the call from this number was not, Advised not to call it
I wasn’t sure to start with but they did say that bt hire them to offer leaving customers better deals. Which they did can’t complain at broadband and anytime calls for under £20 and got an email from bt to confirm the new deal
Cancelled broadband and phone poor broadband cover getting dear to i think all broadband companies are scammers promise the earth then poor service all to ready to up your bill
Just had a call from this number on my BT mobile. Caller had a garbled version of my name and had an approximate date for the actual start of my mobile contract. This surely means that someone, Somewhere, Has access to BT records and is using them improperly!
Probably a scam. Said from BT and mobile contract coming to an end etc. I replied it wasn't as only just taken out and cut the call. So not sure what the end result would hsve been. Now blocking the number.
Silent call, Maybe computer generated. If it was BT that would show as an 0800 number. I am with BT and not leaving, Can only conclude a scam or illegal marketing.
Call from BT. I cancelled my BT subscription due to their obscene prices compared to other suppliers. Seems like they want me back. Not going to fall for it. Cheap prices for a couple months then 3 letters in a year after that telling you that prices will rise.
A Scottish person claiming to be from BT just rang me. Knew my name. Wanted me to sign up to a new deal. He said I will have seen Open Reach laying fibre optics cables. Apparently the offer was 'first come first served' to existing customers. Well nice try but no one's layed any fibre cables around here, Hell, We don't even have mains gas or sewage! I think we'd have noticed.
Claimed to be from BT, I checked with them this evening and they have said
That wouldn't be a genuine BT number, No.

Leaving BT due to ridiculous prices and getting called from this number several times a day. The number MUST have got info from BT as previously quoted details of my BT account, Reported as spam to BT and..... Nothing happens!!!
THIS IS A GENUINE BT NUMBER.
We were called from this number today to discuss a possible upgrade to our broadband package,
The caller knew all the details of the account, Asked for no sensitive information, And followed up the call with a confirmation email, Details of which immediately showed up in our online BT account.
When answered all I could hear was interference and then it cut off - called BT who confirmed it was a known scam number and I reported it through bt. Com/scams. I had cancelled my BT broadband the previous day!
Been trying to call my mobile for the last 2 days - no message left. People below have said they think it’s BT trying to get them to stay rather than move to a new supplier, But I don’t have an account with BT and have never given them my number, So pretty certain this is a scam number - don’t give them any of your personal or BT account details!!!
THIS IS NOT BT - I don't know why people think it is - but I have SPOKEN to BT regarding this number and they are very aware of it, And it is a SCAM attempting to possibly gain access to computer/personal information. I was asked to report it to fraud services by BT!! DO NOT be fooled!!!!
Supposedly from BT but im not sure, Its after I have decided to move to another provider due to ridiculous prices from BT, U can upgrade with them but cant downgrade!
This IS a GENUINE BT call. I was in fact called from this 0191 number first (but didn't have time to talk), Then the second time I was called by the same guy from 08003289393 which came up as a BT number on caller ID. When I questioned it he gave me lots of info from my account that proved he was BT. I was in the process of cancelling BT and going to Vodafone, Hadn't got enough off BT to stay, But then with this call they gave me a brilliant deal for staying with BT after all! Stick with it!!
Received this call, I too am leaving BT. A miracle that I noticed it as my landline has been on silent for 10 years cos I never use it. Do people still use landlines?
