Was called exactly at 5: 00 PST from this number with the caller ID saying it was from Toronto. I've dealt with the fake Scotiabank before so I was already prepared. I am not and have never been a Scotiabank customer so when they called saying they were from an insurance firm associated with Scotia, I told them off as I knew it was a scam. Do not call them back, do not give them any information, and if you have, look into the proper channels to further protect your identity and information.
When you pick up the phone, they will have your full legal name, most likely taken from a financial database leak. They will also know your postal code and were very pushy into making me buy life insurance. Don't respond and just cancel the call if possible. If not, be very pushy about stalling it for later or calling Scotiabank later.
They sound very legit. They know your name and your postal code from somewhere. If you try to refer to Scotia life website they tell you that you that they can do it over the phone. DO NOT give them anything. They call centre sounds very fake and their people sound are very pushy. Rule of thumb is make sure they send an email out, or have them verify with you that they are legit. Banks will not call you; they will email send and send letters before calling you.
Claim they are Scotialife (insurance) underwritten by Chubb life insurance. They are offering a promotional $5000 life insurance/accidental insurance plan(s). They say they don't need your bank info cuz they have it already but they ask you to confirm your name (including middle initial), address, email address, and phone number. Scotiabank doesn't care to do anything since no fraud has actually occurred and neither do the RCMP.
Sound robot call. Call with wrong title and use my latino first and second names as full name. This is a leaking information from some official/financial site since I use only one of the names for all other purposes
