I called the direct phone number from the cra website. Not only did the confirm the number was from them but that the exact number had called me at the time I received the phone call. All is safe and good to go with this number.

Tell me a fake CRA letter in the mail it's a fraud

Legit CRA number but likely spoofed. I was left a message that just said "this is Christina, call me back at 236-xxx-xxxx". No mention of CRA or who the message was for. She calling like she's my friend. Lol.

This is a real Canadian Government phone number. But, what you need to know is, there are software in the market the scammers use to show this number in your phone screen when you answer the call!. I just received a call from this number. Could barely understand the woman, as she had a very think East Indian accent. When she started talking CERB, I told her that my CRA account was hacked last year and there is no way I would discuss anything to do with CRA accounts to someone who calls me out of the blue. If this is truly a CRA related issue, then I expect a letter in the mail from the government outlining the issue and then I will initiate the call to a Government number.

Lol, only commenting because so many people are saying this is a scam. I currently work for the CRA covid benefits information line and this phone number is listed in our database as “Canada Emergency Benefits Validation and Identity Protection Service”. It is not a fraudulent call, and the number belongs to the government. You can call the CRA to verify this information if you don’t believe me.

This is a legitimate government of Canada number, they even had the ability to reset my My CRA account.

They called and asked for me by name and asked if I still needed cerb. I said yes even though cerb doesn’t exist and they immediately asked for my social insurance number.

Recd multiple calls and vm from this number. Finally called them back was given a “case” number and quoted that number on the phone and they still asked for my SIN #. I did not provide them with that. When I questioned the person on the phone and applied pressure to her she became quite defensive. They wanted a picture of my photo ID and some other info. I then proceeded to state of they are requesting that info it can either be sent to my CRA account online or they can send a letter in the mail

Do NOT answer the phone or respond to any message left from this number. They claim to be the CRA "validation office". They are NOT. Do not give your social security number, Banking information or address out. This is a scam.
